Hatteras Village, through the Hatteras Village Civic Association, hosts a wide variety of events throughout the year. There are also features that are owned and/or operated by the village, some seasonal and some all year. All are invited and welcomed, try one or try them all! Your adventure awaits!

Starry Nights

February 21, 2026
This fun, free, family event has something for everyone! The mobile planetarium from the Morehead Planetarium visits the village and presents 4 shows for attendees. Also available are crafts, presentations and experiments for every age! Later, stop in for some hot free soup before heading out to star watch on the beautiful beach across from our Sandy Bay with the Planetarium Peeps!
Hatteras Village Waterfowl Festival

March 6-7, 2026
Our event focuses on the abundant waterfowl that are in our area during the Atlantic Flyway. The festival serves as a great opportunity to discover just how wild the island’s wintertime environment can be and provides educational opportunities to explore and learn about the local wildlife while providing plenty fun. Friday night kicks off with our unique Fin, Feather and Bourbon event!
Hatteras Village Offshore Open

May 12-16, 2026
The opening event of the NC Billfish Series, the Hatteras Village Offshore Open is now in its third decade. The second oldest event for the Hatteras Village Civic Association, it supports their mission of providing scholarships to college bound village residents as well as supporting charitable causes within the community and the larger, island-wide community. Come and experience the world class fishing and local hospitality in Hatteras Village all while supporting a great cause.
July 4th Golf Cart Parade and Cook Out

July 4, 2026
This may, by far, be our most fun events for all involved. Each July 4th, we have a Golf Cart Parade and totally free cook out for anyone, resident or visitor alike. What began 12 years ago as a 10 or 12 cart procession that no one came to watch has blossomed into a 50+ cart extravaganza where our entries go all-out with enthusiasm and creativity and crowds line the highway and cheer the entries with all the spirit the heat can encouraging mustering!
Hatteras Village Surf Fishing Tourney

September 11-12, 2026
Surf fishing along the beaches of Hatteras is like no other anywhere else in the world. Annually in September, the Hatteras Village Civic Association sponsors the Hatteras Village Invitational Surf Fishing Tournament with 60+ teams participating. The event is open to anyone interested in a fun filled weekend. and Bourbon event!
Day at the Docks

September 18-19, 2026
Day at the Docks was started to celebrate the “Spirit of Hatteras” when the village recovered from Hurricane Isabel in 2003. This September event is a confirmation of the strength of community, heritage and living traditions of the watermen. There are competitions, demonstrations, entertainment, seafood, children’s activities and educational information. The concluding activity is the Blessing of the Fleet.
Haunted Trail

October 24, 2026
Each year, we trick out our beautiful trail and boardwalk, Sea Breeze Trail, that winds through our small maritime forest and turn it into a harrowing experience, full of terror and fun! This one night event is sure to unnerve even the bravest of folks!

Hatteras Village Christmas Parade

December 12, 2026
On the 2nd Saturday in December, Hatteras Islanders flock to the village to see the magnificent Hatteras Village Christmas Parade. 2026 will be the 35th year we have been hosting this parade and one we can’t wait to host again! The spectacle includes the CHSS Marching Band, floats pulled by trucks, decorated golf carts, boats and other things all follow the parade route along with our island’s fire trucks, CHEC trucks and MORE! So much fun for all!
Village Features
Hatteras Island Ocean Center

Open seasonally from May through September
The Ocean Center provides a wide variety of recreational and educational activities for people of all ages. Guided kayak tours offer amazing views of the surrounding marsh and then the adjoining bay. Night time programming offers unparalleled view of our dark skies after making delicious s’more over a fire. Learn about our local sea turtle species and efforts to protect them. The exhibit hall is within walking distance of central Hatteras Village and the village nature trail. Our Center is a wonderful resource for visitors and residents. Experiencing the beauty and resources that surround us inspires us to preserve them for the future.
Hatteras Village Playground

Open All Year
Our community playground, located behind the post office area, is a fun and safe place for all children. It is easily accessible and ADA compliant. There is a picnic area and trash bins. We ask that you refrain from having pets in the area due to the artificial turf on the playground.

Sea Breeze Trail
Open All Year

Visit our beautiful nature trail, located off Eagle Pass on the ocean side of the road. This serene and scenic quarter mile walk winds through maritime forest and the marsh. Walk out over the Slash Creek, where you can sit and relax on the benches. Dogs are welcome, but please clean up after them. Most of the year, there are guide books at the trail head to identify native plants to be seen.
